sooo...i amwanting to get my own fire hoop really soon. I'm super excited but I don't really have anyone in that I know that does this specifically. I guess i'm a little nervous to try it out on my own, is it possible to completely self teach this? if you got a "getting started with fire" story, please share, thanks!

The vast majority of fire safety stuff is applicable to all props, so you don't necessarily need anyone that specifically does hoop, any fire artist will be able to help you out with the basics. I've written a little article that can be found here: Linky

I started out by myself using information I found on the internet. Start out with a fair degree of paranoia and gradually explore those limited boundaries as you get used to how the fire behaves. I hope you have an awesome first burn when you get to it, make sure you film it and keep it for posterity, it won't half make you smile in years to come! :)

Hey girl. My only real helpful advice is once you buy the hoop that's right for you Practice Practice with it...unlit. My hoop from trickconcepts has a rubber- type safety material at the base of the wicks (were they screw in). I recommend a hoop like this so you can touch the hoop with less chance of burns to your fingers and palms. Get comfortable with the weight and handlling of the hoop (especially if you use 1" tube hoops- in my experience most fire hoops are 3/4"). Other than that good luck fellow fire hooper! Keep on keepin on!

As Maria said, practice, practice, practice! Get comfortable with your hoop and don't try to be too brave until you get used to the fire. I hooped daily for almost a year before moving onto fire--and my first burn was definitely a success! Spend the extra money to get a quality fire hoop, something designed for your measurements specifically. It's worth it! Good luck!
