Poi Lessons - Videos - Articles

Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips or direct me to a tutorial on wall plane flowers spirals? I've pretty much got the wall plane flowers nailed, but i'm finding doing the spiral bit a little tricky. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by flower spirals? I'm incredibly intrigued to find out, though!

I think I know what you're talking about.

Either you mean 2 handed-spiral wraps with your hands moving in a circle to make it either inspin or antispin - OR - you mean the single-handed spiral wraps that was popularized by Ronan

I think if you clarified which it'd be easier to help out. :P

That's it, the single-handed spiral wraps. I can't seem to find any really good examples to try and follow.

yeah, that one fried my brains for a while.

A lot of it really depends on what kind of handles you use, since in Wall plane with the poi spinning in the same direction (lets say they're spinning clockwise), the poi in your right hand begins the spiral wrap in the crotch of your thumb/pointer, where the poi in your left hand begins the spiral wrap at the blade of your hand (running down the pinky).

The result is that both poi are spinning clockwise, and both finish wrapping at the same time.
The timing of when you begin wrapping is also indicative of at what point/petal of the anti-spin flower it finishes wrapping/stalls so that you can begin unwrapping in the opposite direction.

^repeat except switch everything around for Counter-Clockwise rotation.

If this isn't clear enough (because lets face it, typing out technical details of poi spinning is never all that clear) I could try to make a short video demonstrating. :P

I think that's what I'm trying to do. The wrapping around my hands isn't a problem, it's the timing which seems to be the main stumbling block. This I'm hoping will come in time, in the meantime a vid (with some slow motion)would be a great help as I can't seem to find anything out there. I subscribe to your youtube channel (yello987654321) and have got a couple of your vids on my favourites, your a cool spinner that makes great vids don't ever stop

At 2:44 Ronan does 2 variants of the antispin wall plane spiral flowers.
It look simple, but really kinda messes with your head once done in practice, I'll try to put some kind of video up about the theory behind it :P
