How did you first get into fire / glow arts, and how long have you been involved?
I grew up in San Francisco, and my attraction to object manipulation and the movement arts began as a kid, when I hooped, played with a baton and diabolo, and swung keychains and umbrellas on my walk to school. I was introduced to poi around 2000 through the local rave scene (read: a friend grabbed my glowsticks, tied them to strings, and began spinning them around his body), and became obsessed with juggling for most of 2002 before again switching my focus to poi. I lit my first wicks in 2003, and began to perform LSD Fuego in 2004. I play with poi, contact staff, double staff, triple staff, hoop, fans, floating wand, fire eating, and a little ball-, club-, and contact-juggling. I currently perform with the Vulcan Crew and Pyrotation.
Oop, my bad. I forgot about that, I was kind of nervous because that was my first class. That was a fun wine and cheese party, love spinning in the middle of all those burners. Have fun at burning man, I'm taking a pass this year...
Whats up Miss Fan Diva? I still crack up when I think of how often we hung out at fire drums, given that we don't spin remotely the same stuff. Good times, good times...
