Sick stuff dude. I just picked up strings for the first time 3 weeks ago. Finally got over the intimidation of it. Im hoping to be good enough in the next month or so to post a beginners vid. But seriously, props bro.

One benefit that glowsticks and flowtoys have over fire is that their "burn" time is much longer. I can dance the night away and not have to worry about breaking my performance up into 5-10 minute segments. And, you can dance much closer to people a…

p.s. manipulatioons are not imposible with poi/fire.... i do them on a daily!!!!

i love this topic becuz everbody asks me this same question.... i started out as a glowstringer and i love it, but i also progressed into poi and i love it to!!!! i have a set for each fire and glow stringing... i would never just leave it to one cu…

you've got the point... but there's one thing... stage balls are nice for practising... but pls give me acrylic :) it's a lot easier to control on body-rolls and mesmerizing for those you are watching you. I really recommend you to buy one standard…

For advice, all I can say is be persistent. You're going to be dropping that ball a LOT, so invest in stage balls. I've been practicing a little over a month, and have gotten frustrated quite easily. But I'm also extremely stubborn, and I refuse to…

what kind of sticks are those?starduss?

There's still a great difference. You can do glowsticking with Flowtoys, or you can do Poi. The tools won't change your style of spinning.
September 4, 2009
get some flowtoys and watch the difference evaporate. by far my new favorite non fire poi.

I like poi more than glow sticks. It seems to me that glow sticking is more for ravers. Even though i rave i bring my sock poi to the party. Not as fun for kids to watch. But still fun for me to spin to the music and that is all that really matters.…

To be honest, I like the way they're separated. Poi and Glowstringing are 2 very different things, but they have their similarities. Although, I have to say I'm a bit biased against glowsticks in general, as I feel that 90% of all stringers simply d…

Started out with sticks, they are fun... moved to poi, also fun. Poi: Likes: Weight=Isolation/easier for learning things slow, good for slower music, or adjusting to varying tempos Dislikes: Hurts when it collides with my face or family jewels, hard…

I don't want to hate on 'stickers, cause either style is a matter of preference and niether takes more skill than the other... they're just different. I am trying to maintain a neutral perspective when I say that that glowstickers get on my nerves i…

My first burn

So this past weekend (the 4th of July) I decided it was time for me to light my poi for the first time. So as an intermission to my friends $2500 fireworks show, I spun for about 5 minutes in front of a good sized crowd of about 25 people which made me really nervous and made me forget alot of the things I wanted to do even though I practiced non-stop for the pervious few days ... unfortunatly my poi was homemade with really bad wicks (they were just tiki torch wicks cut up and screwed on the en… Continue

Beating the 3 Beat

So I started "re-learning" traditional poi... Not that I ever really knew traditional poi to begin with (all my moves and techniques are rave related) but that neither here nor there. I started in the begining of March and had so much trouble with the 3 beat weave. I got so angry with the fact that I couldn't get it that I went around it and tried to learn everything else, which worked for a while but I kept finding that the 3 beat weave is the base of alot of moves. and finally today, May14th I… Continue

New moves for an old Raver

I reciently decided to try to learn some new poi moves, mostly to teach a friend of mine that I brought into the rave scene who was taken back by my poi demonstrations at a rave I took him to. I have been going to raves all along the east coast of the US for the better end of 5 years now and I always kept my moves pretty limited to a style that was comfortable to me but somewhat foreign to others who I watched in amazement. My short string style seemed to be difficult for others to learn but cam… Continue
