Poi Lessons - Videos - Articles

I've been meaning to take up some kind of staff spinning for a while now, and I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a 140cm contact staff from Firetoys. When it arrived I was kind of surprised by the weight of it, given that it's made mostly of fibreglass,

After an hour or 2 of playing with it in the park this evening, though, I officially love it. I seem to have taken to it relatively easily - I think the poi has helped with the arm positions BTB etc...

Anybody got any ideas on an order I should take on any moves as far as contact stuff goes? I've sort of got the hang of elbow rolls (if that's what I'm doing's called! It certainly feels like that! It's where I roll it over the back side of my elbow and then move my wrist out so it rests on just my wrist at full extension). It all looks a bit alien, and tbh, some of the matrix, halo and snes stuff I have noooooooooooo idea how to even get into it!

Any help is much appreciated. I've been looking at MCP's and Homeofpoi's lessons, and they seem to explain things pretty well. Are there any other resources I can look at anybody knows about?

Anyway, I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before I seriously hurt myself with it - it strikes me as likely to be a whole bunch more dangerous than poi!

Meast rocks, and so does Linda Farkas from Magma Fire Theatre! Her work is so graceful, and beautiful.
